About Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club
For over 25 years, Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club has been one of Montrose County's most essential community institutions. We are the largest after-school and summer provider in the region, and the only organization offering full-day, full-summer programming for working families in Montrose County. We serve children ages 6–18, five days a week, with extended hours until 7 PM to accommodate the realities of rural working life — long commutes, agricultural schedules, shift work, and everything in between.
The Families We Serve
Our community is made up of hardworking people doing their best for their kids. Over 300 children walk through our doors each year, and 84% of their families qualify as low-to-moderate income. Many are single-parent households, grandparent-headed families, or foster families navigating extraordinary circumstances. Our sliding-scale fee structure ensures that no child is ever turned away because of cost. Every kid who needs us gets to be here.
What We Do
We operate out of a renovated movie theater right on Main Street — a Montrose landmark reimagined as a hub for the next generation. Every day, we provide academic support through our Power Hour homework program, social-emotional development through our evidence-based Positive Action curriculum, and over 10,000 nutritious meals and snacks each year. We connect kids with mentors and community leaders who show them what's possible — and we're expanding our teen programming to meet a critical and growing need.
Why Fundraising Matters
Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club receives no funding from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We are entirely locally supported — through grants, community donations, and events like the Montrose Wine Festival. The festival is our greatest community fundraiser of the year, and every dollar raised stays right here in Montrose County, going directly toward staffing, programming, and keeping our doors open for the kids who need us most.
When you raise a glass at the Montrose Wine Festival, you're helping ensure that the next generation of Montrose kids has every opportunity to thrive. And we think that's worth celebrating.
